Can't wait to hear it!
When I was around 15 or 16 (about 10 years ago 🤫), I heard Dream Theater and Metropolis Pt1 for the first time, and I became captivated by it. I would repeatedly listen to that particular song until I fully comprehended it and memorized it. Later, I attended numerous Dream Theater live performances, over 10 times I believe. For those unfamiliar, this is how I discovered Pain of Salvation when they were opening for Dream Theater in Barcelona in 2002. However, I never had the opportunity to witness Metropolis live until last November in Stockholm, when they opened their show with it. I felt goosebumps and all, and the obsession resurfaced.
To remedy this, I decided to attempt a cover. Initially, I had the audacious idea of performing both drums and vocals simultaneously. However, I soon realized how presumptuous my plan was, as I can barely sing the song in one continuous take on a good day without drumming. Consequently, my ambitions were somewhat dampened. 😀
So I played and sang separately and this is the result. As usual, what you see is what I performed, I’m just not miming the song in front of a camera. However this is not a one shot performance, the vocals are cut between 3 different takes and the drums a bunch more, mostly due to the fact that I wanted more angle options and I don’t have a million cameras.
This is my tribute to a band that has profoundly influenced and ignited my passion like perhaps no other.
