Somewhere between takes I got tired of the same thing: a click that has no idea where the bar is. In 4/4 it’s fine. The moment the music isn’t in four, a metronome ticking flat through the bar stops helping and starts fighting you.
So I built one that counts properly. It’s called OddClick.
What it actually does
You tell it how the bar falls. 7/8 as 2+3+2. 13/8 as 3+4+3+2+1. Anything that adds up — there’s no list of supported meters to be stuck inside. The downbeat comes out strong, each group gets its own accent, and everything else stays out of the way. It counts the way you’d count it in your head.
Past that: a different sound for each accent role, subdivisions you can set beat by beat, and a whole song’s worth of time signatures imported straight from a MIDI file so the first take is already right.
Where it’s at
AAX, VST3 and AU, running in Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase and REAPER. macOS. It’s in development, with release estimated for this autumn.
